Project Overview
The Cherry Sculpted Mirror was developed as a functional wall mirror with the presence of a handmade object. Its frame is formed from solid wood and shaped to emphasize movement, depth, and the natural character of the material.
Material and Process
The solid wood frame is shaped and worked by hand to create a softly irregular surface rather than a uniform manufactured profile. Variations in thickness and texture allow the frame to catch light differently throughout the day, revealing changes in the grain, color, and depth of the wood.
Design Approach
The frame was designed to feel expressive without distracting from the reflection. Its sculpted surface introduces movement and variation, while the overall proportions remain simple enough to work in a range of residential and commercial interiors.
Available Wood Options
The mirror pictured is made from solid cherry, but each piece can also be commissioned in maple, walnut, white oak, natural ash, or blackened ash. Every wood species has its own color, grain pattern, and character, so the finished mirror will vary depending on the material selected.
Wood Character
Cherry offers a warm color that deepens with age, maple creates a lighter and more subtle appearance, walnut provides rich darker tones, and white oak offers a strong linear grain. Ash has a lighter open grain, while blackened ash creates a darker finish that still preserves the texture of the wood.
