ABOUT:

Derek Cuellar is a woodworker born in San Antonio, Texas, and based in Brooklyn, NY. He creates custom furniture, cabinetry, and sculptural objects that sit between fine craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Much of his work begins with what’s already here: scrap offcuts, recycled lumber, and locally sourced trees. Drawn to materials with history, he treats natural variation, wear, and past use as part of the composition rather than something to conceal. Each piece is built to be lived with and looked at—defined by precise joinery, deliberate proportions, and finishes that honor the grain and the story embedded in the wood.

From concept through fabrication and installation, he collaborates with clients, designers, and studios to produce one-of-one works and functional objects with sculptural presence.
