Project Overview
This plywood table lamp was developed as a functional lighting object with a simple, geometric form. The design uses the exposed layers of the plywood as a visible detail, allowing the construction and material to become part of the finished appearance.
Material and Construction
The lamp was built from precisely cut plywood components that were assembled and finished by hand. The alternating layers along the exposed edges create a linear pattern that adds texture and visual depth to the otherwise minimal form.
Design Approach
The shape was intentionally kept straightforward so the plywood grain, layered edges, and proportions could remain the focus. The design highlights the character of an everyday building material through careful construction and a clean silhouette.
Light and Atmosphere
When illuminated, the lamp creates a warm and intimate presence. Its compact scale makes it suitable for a bedside table, desk, console, shelf, or other interior setting where soft accent lighting is desired.
Final Result
The finished piece balances direct construction with a quiet and refined character. The exposed plywood layers, clean geometry, and warm light allow the lamp to function as both an everyday object and an individually made piece from the Derek Designs collection.
