A sculptural lamp composed of reclaimed walnut and cherry, where hand-cut perforations transform discarded material into a luminous vessel.
Textured Lamp
Derek Designs created this sculptural wood lamp from reclaimed walnut and cherry, using hand-cut perforations to create a textured surface that lets warm light pass through the form.
Project Details
Studio: Brooklyn, NY
Client Type: Sculptural wood object / lighting
Materials: Reclaimed walnut and cherry
Related Services: Custom woodworking Brooklyn, sculptural wood objects, custom furniture Brooklyn
Scope of Work
Design and fabrication of a small wooden lighting object, including shaping, surface texturing, perforation layout, assembly, and finishing.
Design / Build Challenge
The piece needed to feel solid as an object while still allowing light to move through the wood. The hand-cut perforations give the lamp its texture and create small points of illumination across the surface.
Final Result
A compact sculptural lamp that turns reclaimed walnut and cherry into a warm, functional wood object with a handmade surface and quiet architectural presence.
